Professional Development & Learning Plan/Activities
After
completing the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP), here are
some ways I would like to continue my development to ongoing
learning—focusing on both subject matter expertise and enhancing my
instructional skills.
Learning
Activities & Ongoing Development
- Instructional Design &
Project Management: I'd dive deeper into these areas by taking courses from Coursera
or enrolling in professional certificates from institutions like BCIT or
UBC Sauder. Staying sharp in designing learning experiences and managing
educational projects would be key.
- Experimenting
with Teaching Methods: I’d challenge myself to incorporate Universal
Design for Learning (UDL) and Active Learning Strategies to
make lessons more engaging, accessible, and dynamic. Trying flipped
classrooms or gamification techniques would be an exciting challenge!
- Conferences & Workshops: ATD (Association
for Talent Development) – If I wanted to refine my instructional
design skills, I’d consider attending this one. However, the Canadian
eLearning Conference held in Toronto looks quite interesting as well.
- Books on Teaching &
Learning: I
have already started reading Design for How People Learn by Julie
Dirksen – this is a must-read for instructional designers! I have also ordered Facilitating
Learning with the Adult Brain in Mind: A Conceptual and Practical Guide
by Kathleen Taylor and Catherine Marienau
- Instructional Techniques: Periodically checking The Learning Coach - This is a website where
Connie Malamed shares actionable strategies, practical content,
product reviews and resources to help others design, develop and
understand learning, instructional design and visual design.
- Professional Organizations to Join or Volunteer With: Project Management Institute (PMI) – If I wanted to sharpen my organizational skills as an educator, I’d join this network. I have already become a member of the Training Magazine Social Learning Network and Bob Pike Group
