Professional Goals
Vision for the Next Five Years as an Instructor
In five years, I see myself as a skilled and adaptable
instructor, committed to continuously enhancing trades education. My goal is to
foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes critical
thinking, hands-on problem-solving, and self-directed learning. I will
incorporate emerging technologies into my teaching to ensure students gain
relevant skills for a rapidly evolving industry. Additionally, I aspire to
advance into a leadership role as an Instructional Designer, contributing to
curriculum development and supporting the growth of both students and fellow
educators.
Three SMART Professional Goals
- Earn
My Provincial Instructor Diploma
- Specific:
Complete the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) to enhance my
instructional skills.
- Measurable:
Successfully finish all required courses and assessments.
- Achievable:
Dedicate focused study time while balancing work and personal
responsibilities.
- Realistic:
Enroll in courses in advance to stay on track
- Time-bound:
Complete the diploma within this year.
2.
Enhance Student Engagement Through Active
Learning Strategies
- Specific:
Implement interactive teaching methods, such as problem-based learning
and hands-on activities, to increase student participation and
comprehension in trades training.
- Measurable: Incorporate at least three new active learning techniques in my courses and assess their effectiveness through student feedback and performance metrics. Use the Classroom Assessment Techniques (Angelo & Cross, 2024) textbook for ideas on feedback strategies.
- Achievable:
Utilize my existing knowledge of adult learning principles and
collaborate with colleagues to develop engaging lesson plans.
- Realistic:
Start with small-scale implementation in one or two lessons per module
before expanding to the entire curriculum.
- Time-bound:
Integrate these strategies within the next two years and continuously
refine them based on student outcomes and feedback.
3.
Enhance Curriculum Design for Trades
Training
- Specific:
Improve and modernize course materials by incorporating
competency-based learning, real-world applications, and updated industry
standards.
- Measurable:
Revise at least two course modules, integrating hands-on activities,
case studies, or industry-relevant technologies.
- Achievable:
Leverage my experience, collaborate with industry professionals, and
use instructional design resources to enhance course content.
- Realistic:
Focus on incremental updates, starting with high-impact topics before
expanding improvements across the curriculum.
- Time-bound:
Complete the revisions within the next two years and evaluate their
effectiveness through student performance and feedback.
These goals focus on improving teaching effectiveness in
trades training. The first goal is to complete the Provincial Instructor
Diploma within the year. The second aims to enhance student engagement
by integrating active learning strategies within two years. The third focuses
on modernizing curriculum design, updating two course modules with
industry-relevant content.
